With Spring firmly here and a season of lawn mowing ahead, now is the perfect time to think about autonomous mowing solutions for your garden. Our robotic mower specialist, Will, answered some key questions you might be considering when thinking about investing in a Husqvarna robot automower.
Is an Automower right for my garden, as there are varying slopes and obstacles?
Automowers can work on varying degrees of slopes, up to 70%/35 degrees. We have tried and tested experience with complex and sloped gardens, and our customers have been surprised by how well they deal with the challenges.
Gardens with plenty of features such as trees and central flower beds are no problem for a wired or wireless automower due to Stay out Zones, which are mapped at the installation stage.
I have dogs in my garden. Is an automower safe to use with pets?
Yes, the Automower x-line range is equipped with ultrasonic or sonar sensors that detect obstacles such as pets ahead of time to safely navigate around them rather than relying on traditional bump sensors.
What is the process of installation? Will you need to visit my garden?
For peace of mind, a site visit is always recommended. This will allow us to answer any questions that you may have and help you choose the right locations for chargers and reference stations. The Machine Base station, for example, Â needs to be within 3m of a weatherproof 3-pin UK power socket.
We will then organise an installation at your property, and full guidance on any apps and instructions on how to use your automower will be provided.
How regularly does my automower need to be serviced?
We would suggest an annual service. The robot mower machines do a lot of hours compared to a garden tractor or walk-behind mower, so it is important to properly maintain the machine to achieve the best working life. Turney’s can carry out annual servicing, just get in touch with us when you are taking it out of action for the winter.
A robot mower winter service includes a full clean, including driving wheels and driving gears, new water-tight seals around the internals of the machine, a full health check for the circuit boards and battery, and blade replacements. This will get your machine ready and waiting for the next season.
Where should I store my automower over winter?
After your winter service, ensure your robot mower is fully charged and store it somewhere where temperature change is limited between 15-25 degrees, ideally indoors.
My Wi-Fi and phone signal are temperamental, is an automower for me?
The new automower Nera machines run on an open satellite network and do not require 4G, 5G or WI-FI to operate. A reference station would be needed to allow your robot mower to operate without a boundary wire; however, with a boundary wire, they can be fitted virtually anywhere.
Do you offer any finance options for robotic mowers?
Yes! We are proud to offer Husqvarna Lease Plus, which means you can enjoy hassle free autonomous mowing for a fixed monthly cost. Starting from £35 per month*, this is an affordable option so that you can have your own robotic mower supplied, installed, serviced, insured, and a quantity or blade replacements provided- all included in the price. At the end of the contract, you can choose to upgrade to a new automower or return it to Husqvarna directly.
